Here are my felted placemats in their finished moment. How did I make these, you wonder? Actually, I’m amazed they turned out just like I wanted them to. I used lopi yarn to knit a big rectangle. I remembered that this yarn shrinks more in height than width, so I made my rectangle twice as high as I wanted the finished diameter to be but not as wide. My finished diameter is 15″. My rectangle of loosely knitted lopi was approximately 30″ tall by maybe 45″ wide. I wish I’d taken better notes. I changed color after each skein, hoping each stripe would be 7″ or so. Then popped it in the washer on warm, through the dryer and while still a little wet I shaped it and stretched it to my measurements. 15″ tall by 31″ wide. I used a paper bag to make a 15″ circle pattern. Cut two circles out of the felted fabric. I looked at my new placemats and thought, ‘nice but a bit dull. they need some sparkle.’ I found this sparkly yarn when I was up visiting my sister in Mystic, CT and used it to crochet a simple little edging. We’re very happy with the result!
